Givebutter is remote-first, and sometimes life takes you across borders whether that be an extended stay with family overseas, a long trip, or just wanting to log on for a bit while you’re away. The key thing to know is that the moment you work from another country (even for a single day) it can create tax, legal, payroll, immigration, and security obligations for both you and Givebutter. (A true vacation without logging in doesn’t count 😉) That’s why we ask for a heads-up before you go.

📋 Before You Book Your Trip

Let your manager and the People team know that you are planning to log in overseas, tell them where you’ll be going, how long, and why you need to log in.

How much lead time to give us:

➡️ Our General Guideline

Employees may work internationally for up to 30 working days total across all international remote work trips during any rolling 12-month period. This is an internal review threshold, not a guaranteed allowance or legal safe harbor. Every request is reviewed individually. Requests that exceed 30 total working days within a rolling 12-month period, or otherwise present additional legal, tax, payroll, immigration, security, or operational risk, may require additional review and may not be approved. The People Team tracks cumulative international workdays by employee and country.

Some Locations Aren’t Available

A small number of destinations aren’t available for remote work due to legal, regulatory, sanctions, security, or data-protection requirements, and this can change over time. Please don’t assume a location is fine just because it isn’t named in this policy. Check with the People team about your specific destination before you book.
