Employees are eligible if they have worked for the company for at least 12 months at the time of the Qualifying Life Event (as defined below).
In addition, to be eligible to receive parental leave, employees must also apply for any benefits available to them under federal, state or local law or Givebutter policies, such as DC Paid Family Leave (DC PFL) or short-term disability, for the same period in which the employee seeks to take parental leave.
Givebutter offers 12 weeks of paid parental leave of up to 70% of an employee's pre-leave salary to all care providers who have experienced a Qualifying Life Event (as defined below). Medical, dental, and vision insurance will also remain active during this period.
The following are considered Qualifying Life Events:
Since plans will need to be made to cover your job during your absence, please give the People Team and your manager at least 3 months of notice prior to the expected date of the Qualifying Life Event, or as much advanced notice as possible.
Employees choose to begin their parental leave:
Employees may also choose to split their parental leave into two periods. For example, an employee may choose to take 4 weeks of parental leave immediately following the Qualifying Life Event and then the rest of the parental leave 6 months after the Qualifying Life Event.
No matter when taken, parental leave must be used in minimum increments of one week.
If you plan to delay or split your leave, please discuss your plan with the People Team and your manager in advance of the Qualifying Life Event.
